About the Course

Dissociative Disorders are underdiagnosed, undertreated, and widely misunderstood among mental health professionals. Dissociative disorders are more common than either schizophrenia or bipolar disorder even by conservative estimates, yet individuals suffering from these disorders are typically in the mental health system for years before receiving the proper diagnosis. The presentation of these individuals typically includes an array of dissociative symptoms that are identifiable through proper assessment but easily overlooked by the untrained eye. As a result, individuals with dissociative disorders are often diagnosed only with more easily recognized but clinically secondary co-morbid disorders, while their primary dissociative condition remains untreated. This presentation will review the epidemiology, common presentations and differential diagnosis of DSM-5 dissociative disorders, as well as the role of trauma history in their etiology.

This course is based on the recorded webinar, High Yield Review of DSM-5 Dissociative Disorders created by Garrett Deckel, MD in 2019.
