Racial/ethnic subgroup differences in outcomes and acceptability of an Internet-delivered intervention for substance use disorders

About the Course:

This course discusses internet-delivered treatment for substance use disorders. The authors measured racial/ethnic subgroup differences. Other measures include: sex, age, education, employment, insurance status, travel time/distance to program, internet use, primary substance of abuse, abstinence, retention, social functioning, coping, craving, and acceptability. The authors cited previous studies where race and ethnicity were factors in the outcome of contingency management (CM) and community reinforcement approach (CRA). They posit that technology can be used to administer treatment without bias, provided said technology is accessible in these subgroups. Dr. Aimee Campbell is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatric Social Work at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry and Research Scientist at New York State Psychiatric Institute in the Division on Substance Use Disorders. Her research focuses on the development and testing of individual and program level interventions for substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health disorders, and HIV prevention and treatment, including the leveraging of technology-based platforms, with the objective of increasing adoption and implementation of evidence-based treatments. Dr. Campbell is an author on more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

L Montgomery, Ph.D.

LaTrice Montgomery is an Assistant Professor and licensed Clinical Psychologist in the Addiction Sciences Division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She has presented her award-winning work at several regional and national conferences and has been published in top-tier journals, including Drug and Alcohol Dependence and the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology.

K Sanchez, Ph.D.

Katherine is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work at The University of Texas Arlington. Her expertise includes integrated health care, treatment of mental health in primary care settings, and mental health issues of Latino populations
