About the Course

This study examined the relation between restrictive eating, binge eating, purging, and suicidal ideation in adolescent and young adult females with low-weight eating disorders. We hypothesized that restrictive eating would be associated with suicidal ideation, even when considering the effects of binge eating and purging. We found that restrictive eating (but not binge eating or purging) predicted greater suicidal ideation. These findings underscore the importance of healthcare providers screening and regularly assessing suicidal thoughts and behaviors, particularly among patients engaging in restrictive eating.

This course is based on the article, Restrictive eating, but not binge eating or purging, predicts suicidal ideation in adolescents and young adults with low-weight eating disorders created by Shirley Wang, AM et al. in 2019.
