The Trauma Resiliency Model: A “Bottom-Up” Intervention for Trauma Psychotherapy

About the Course:

The Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) is a therapeutic approach for treating trauma. This approach takes a “bottom-up” approach i.e. using body-based, rather than cognitive interventions.

Linda Grabbe, PhD, APRN-BC

Grabbe has cared for patients all over the globe, as a Peace Corps medical officer and as a U.S. embassy nurse practitioner. She has used proven methods for resiliency and self-care training to help homeless women, children, teens, and young adults effectively manage post-traumatic stress disorder, complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and emotion dysregulation. She also has trained nursing students and faculty, firefighters, paramedics, and other community members to help them better serve homeless and other high-risk populations.

Elaine Miller-Karas LCSW

Elaine Miller-Karas LCSW is the executive director and co-founder of the Trauma Resource Institute. She is adjunct faculty at Loma Linda University’s School of Social Work and Social Ecology and has both orchestrated and presented at international projects throughout the world.

Francine Rubinstein

Dr. Rubinstein received her Bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Florida and her Doctorate degrees in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Rubinstein’s professional interests include recovery from trauma, chronic illness/chronic pain, anxiety, stress management and eating disorders. In addition to her experience as a clinician, Dr. Rubinstein has been published in areas addressing post-traumatic stress and chronic illness.

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and social workers. This course is appropriate for all levels of knowledge.

Course Objectives:

  1. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to discuss the epidemiology of childhood trauma and its impact on childhood development and health.

  2. Participants will be able to describe the theoretical foundations of the body-based therapies, in particular the Trauma Resiliency Model.

  3. Participants will also be able to define the nine skills utilized in the Trauma Resiliency Model.
