About the Course

DoD/VA Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) identify Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) as one of two first-line treatment modalities for Veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Utilizing illustrative case examples, this article examines treatment considerations which may be pertinent when treating Veterans and active duty personnel. Such treatment considerations include mental health stigma, factors associated with specific occupational specialties, and duty obligations. This article explores these considerations within the context of the CPT protocol to help improve treatment effectiveness.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Implementing Cognitive Processing Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder With Active Duty U.S. Military Personnel: Special Considerations and Case Examples created by Jennifer Wachen, PhD, Katherine Dondanville, PsyD, and Kristi Pruiksma, PhD in 2016.
