About the Course:
This course provides an overview of the APA Record Keeping Guidelines (RKG) that have been revised to take into account changes in practice such as electronic record keeping as well as legislative and regulatory requirements including HIPAA. The new RKGs provide guidance in such areas as preserving the context of records, organization and level of detail, and retention time and records disposal.
The APA Practice Directorate is currently reviewing these standards and expects to issue an updated guideline in late 2020.
This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about record keeping strategies, regulations, and ethical approaches. It is appropriate for all levels of participants’ knowledge.
Demonstrate an understanding of the APA Record Keeping Guidelines and how they provide a framework for making decisions regarding professional record keeping in a clinical setting.
Differentiate the nature and extent of the professional record based on the purpose, setting, and context of the professional setting in which it is being used.
