About the Course:
This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about assisting children with their anxiety. Research shows that the seeds of anxiety — the most common emotional disorder in the United States — are sown in childhood. Today’s children face unprecedented pressures: news reports on war, natural disasters, school shootings, the Internet, video games, school performance tests. No wonder worry and anxiety now top the list of parents’ concerns for their children. Drawing on over 30 years of practice and on personal anxiety experiences that go back to his own childhood, Dr. Paul Foxman’s clear, well-documented and deeply-felt book is for adults who want to help children with their anxiety. Part I discusses normal anxiety, anxiety disorders, and the personality of anxious children. Part II addresses the role of parents, schools, and society in contributing to children’s anxiety. About the Author:
Paul Foxman, Ph.D., is a psychologist and Director of the Center for Anxiety Disorders in Vermont. He is the author of Dancing with Fear (1996) and a contributor to Conquering Panic and Anxiety Disorders (2002). He speaks nationally on anxiety disorders and treatment, and co-founded the Lake Champlain Waldorf School in Shelburne, Vermont.
