Course Objectives:

  1. to appreciate how miority groups may differ in economic, social and political ways that impact on mental health services

  2. to understand how cultural differences can be reflected in styles of coping with day-to-day problems

  3. to identify how family and community may be accessed in different ways depending upon cultural tradition

  4. to explore mental health use of services by culturally different groups

  5. to identify barriers to treatment for different cultural groups
